In Eridug, Alulim or Adapa became king; he ruled for 8 shari. Alaljar ruled for 10 shari in Eridug. Then Eridug fell and the kingship was taken to Bad-tibira. In Bad-tibira, En-men-lu-ana ruled for 12 shari. En-men-gal-ana ruled for 8 shari in Bad-tibira. Dumuzid, the shepherd, ruled for 10 shari in Bad-tibira. Then Bad-tibira fell and the kingship was taken to Larag. In Larag, En-sipad-zid-ana ruled for 8 shari. Then Larag fell and the kingship was taken to Zimbir. In Zimbir, En-men-dur-ana became king; he ruled for 5 shari 5 Ner. Then Zimbir fell and the kingship was taken to Curuppag. In Curuppag, Ubara-Tutu became king; he ruled for 5 shari 1 Ner. Then the flood swept over. To translate : One Gesh (Sumerian) = One Shush (Akkadian) = 60 (days) One Geshu (Sumerian) = One Ner (Akkadian) = 600 (days) One Shar (Sumerian) = One Shar (Akkadian) = 3600 (days) Sumerians used a sexagecimal system. The translators have translated 8 Shar = 8*3600 = 28800 years. Why One shar should be 3600 years ? why not 3600 hours or 3600 minutes or 3600 seconds or anything else? I have searched and tried many possibilities and the best one is in days. With 8 Shar = 28800 days = 28800/365 years = 79 years. That's a normal length for a lifetime. |
